This unique wanted notice for Dolly, a self-emancipated enslaved woman, includes a cropped carte-de-visite featuring her face. Her enslaver, Louis Manigault (1828-1899), who described her as “rather good looking,” evidently paid for Dolly’s photograph. After Dolly fled, Manigault used the image in his attempt to secure her return.
